In a nutshell
The Food and Fibre ISB wanted to understand the skills needs of food and fibre industries over the longer term, and what vocational education and training is required to support their aspirations. They also want to be able to look at how different scenarios for each industry will affect the amount of training required.
The tool uses a micro-simulation model to replicate the food and fibre workforce (month-by-month) and simulate how it would look under a variety of different scenarios.
How it is being used
This tool is used by the Food ad Fibre ISB to explore what the future training needs might be for the industries it represents, and therefore what advice it should give to TEC regarding training and qualification investment.
The data
This tool draws on several data sources, including:
- Statistics New Zealand Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI)
- Tertiary Education Commission learner numbers.
