We answer questions like
- What does our current workforce look like, and how is it changing?
- What skills and roles will we need in the future?
- Where are the gaps, risks, or pressure points in our workforce?
- What is influencing training uptake, completion, and employment outcomes?
- How can we improve outcomes for different priority groups?
How it works
We bring together data from multiple sources to build a clear picture of your workforce across time, including trends, current state, and future projections. This may include administrative data, survey data, and the Statistics New Zealand Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI), alongside other relevant datasets.
We analyse this data to identify key drivers, gaps, and opportunities, and explore future scenarios. Insights are translated into clear outputs such as dashboards, reports, and visual summaries to support communication and use.
What this helps you do
Understand your current workforce and how it is changing over time.
Identify future workforce needs, gaps and risks.
Target investment and interventions where they will make the biggest difference.
Make confident, evidence-based decisions about workforce, training and policy.
Why us?
Our strength is not just in analysis, but in making sense of workforce dynamics and what they mean for planning, investment, and policy. We work comfortably across complex datasets and connect workforce research with wider insight, evaluation, and strategy, so findings are used.
“This isn’t easy work – a workforce count sounds so simple, yet it requires careful thought. Scarlatti strikes that balance between our information needs and complexity.”
Nichola Shackleton

“Not many people in New Zealand have access to the IDI, but Scarlatti do. This huge data source means we can answer the big questions."

"We engaged Scarlatti and Alta to undertake a baseline study of the infrastructure workforce. It has delivered significant value by improving our ability to identify and measure workforce capacity and capability pressures."
Peter Nunns
NZ Infrastructure Commission / Te Waihanga
"Scarlatti and Alta’s approach was innovative, robust, and collaborative. They assembled a project team with a strong understanding of labour market data and the infrastructure sector."

“Ask the deep questions. Imagine you had access to all the data in the world, what would you want to know? Don’t limit how big your question can be."
