Understand workforces in all of their complexities to inform future needs and interventions.
We have over ten years’ experience undertaking workforce research, particularly for the primary and construction sectors. Clients typically include industry bodies, government departments and industry training organisations.
We provide unparalleled insights into the stocks and flows of workers, and build a robust evidence base of workforce statistics from which to inform future needs and interventions.
Many of our team are approved microdata researchers for the Statistics NZ Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI), a world-leading database that few other organisations have access to. With this access, we can extract insights into not just the size of a workforce, but where workers come from, turnover rates, as well as industry splits by visa status, age, income level and length of tenure.

Access to data
We engaged Scarlatti and Alta to undertake a baseline study of the infrastructure workforce. It has delivered significant value by improving our ability to identify and measure workforce capacity and capability pressures.

“This isn’t easy work – a workforce count sounds so simple, yet it requires careful thought. Scarlatti strikes that balance between our information needs and complexity.”
Nichola Shackleton
Muka Tangata Workforce Development Council
Scarlatti and Alta’s approach was innovative, robust, and collaborative. They assembled a project team with a strong understanding of labour market data and the infrastructure sector.

“Ask the deep questions. Imagine you had access to all the data in the world, what would you want to know? Don’t limit how big your question can be."

“Not many people in New Zealand have access to the IDI, but Scarlatti do. This huge data source means we can answer the big questions."
