Below are some examples of projects we have worked on. The drop-down menu allows you to filter project types.
BCITO - RETURNS FROM TRAINING
Scarlatti's work with BCITO aims to evaluate the value of industry training to the building, painting and decorating industry. The work uses a model of the economic benefit of training along with employer interviews and surveys to source key inputs using a 'wisdom of crowds' approach.
NEW ZEALAND YOUNG FARMERS - RETURNS FROM TALENT ATTRACTION
Scarlatti developed a model to estimate the economic benefit to the farming sector of attracting talented youth into farm management and rural professional support roles. The model extended prior work to quantify the impact of management training on farm businesses by considering the impact of other ways to grow human capability.
WOMEN IN TRADES INITIATIVE - BASELINE FOR WOMEN'S PARTICIPATION IN TRADES
A number of industry training organisations share an interest in encouraging women into careers in which they have traditionally been under-represented. Similarly, training organisations share an interest in understanding the impacts that their training has on the careers of their alumni. Scarlatti is currently undertaking a programme of research designed to address these areas of interest, working closely with a number of New Zealand industry training organisations including BCITO, Competenz and the Skills Organisation.

DAIRYNZ – TALENT FLOWS INTO THE DAIRY FARMING SECTORS
Scarlatti undertook work for DairyNZ to quantify the flows of people into the industry from different labour pools including those completing education, career changers and migrants. Scarlatti also conducted ‘what if’ analyses to explore the potential impact of various labour market dynamics on the supply of talent.
DAIRYNZ – FARMER WELLNESS
In conjunction with DairyNZ and the Ministry of Health, Scarlatti has undertaken a piece of work to research the health and wellbeing of New Zealand farmers. This work sought to better understand the nature of wellness and wellbeing patterns in New Zealand, which in turn allowed the users of this research to inform policy and project design, and develop indicators for ongoing monitoring of the mental and physical wellbeing of the workforce.
GROWINGNZ – MONITORING HUMAN CAPABILITY TARGETS
Scarlatti has worked with GrowingNZ to help measure and forecast human capability in the primary sector. Most recently, Scarlatti has used its Inchworm (Industry Characterisation of Workforce Model) model to project how current training trends compare against the targets developed by the Ministry of Primary Industries in its Future Capability Report.
LANZATECH - FINANCIAL MODELLING
LanzaTech have developed a proprietary platform for producing lowest-cost fuel ethanol. Scarlatti developed a financial model for the application of their technology to a plant using biomass (wood) as the primary feedstock. Scarlatti helped LanzaTech to secure grant funding from EECA to partially fund the work.
SYNTHASE BIO - FINANCIAL MODELLING
Synthase Bio are developing and marketing a novel antioxidant enzyme for use in a variety of biological systems. Scarlatti developed a detailed financial model to assist the company’s first external fundraising and to strike an agreement with an international partner.
SYNTHASE BIO - MARKET SCAN
Synthase Bio are developing and marketing a novel antioxidant enzyme for use in a variety of biological systems. Scarlatti has undertaken a number of market scans to evaluate the potential of specific business opportunities and identify potential partners. These scans have all been undertaken quickly and on a limited budget.
PACIFIC EDGE - COST UTILITY ANALYSIS

DAIRY WOMEN'S NETWORK, WINTEC AND DAIRY TRAINING LIMITED - COACHING PILOT
In conjunction with Dairy Women’s Network, Wintec and Dairy Training Limited, Scarlatti has project managed a new approach to Recognition to Prior Learning (RPL) through a coaching pilot that involves farmers working with the support of a coach to accumulate and document naturally occurring evidence and develop an agribusiness portfolio. Once completed, this portfolio is assessed towards the achievement of components of the New Zealand Diploma in Agribusiness Management (Level 5).
WINTEC, PRIMARY ITO AND DAIRY TRAINING LIMITED - LEVEL 4 PILOT

DAIRY NZ - FARM ASSESSMENT AND PLANNING
Scarlatti is currently undertaking an evaluation of DairyNZ’s Farm Assessment and Planning project. This evaluation aims to gather the right information to monitor activities effectively and efficiently, identify opportunities for change and improvement, and recognise progress towards agreed project outcomes and key indicators of success.
DAIRY NZ - PEOPLE AND SKILLS SCORECARD
Scarlatti is working with DairyNZ to develop a scorecard that measures the competency of farm teams to enable tracking of an industry target: that 90% of dairy farms have fully competent teams by 2020. This required developing a definition for competency, which we defined as a function of qualification, experience and innate ability. A simulation-based approach using Scarlatti’s Inchworm tool was used to understand the relative importance of each factor and link different industry interventions with measurable outputs. The outcome of the simulation was then evaluated against the industry target by collectively assessing the workers’ competency.
DAIRY TRAINING LIMITED - TRAINING DASHBOARD
Scarlatti has worked with Dairy Training Limited (DTL) to develop a dashboard which displays and tracks their student enrolment numbers and completion rates in real-time. The dashboard gives DTL the ability to quickly look up results for a particular class, or broken down by variables such as region, ethnicity and age.
